Why a natural magnesium alternative beats a pill bottle every time

I have a confession to make: High-intensity workouts aren’t always my favorite. But for the last four months, sculpting with Angie (the incredible Angela Mercado of ALM Fitness!) has become one of my absolute favorite parts of being back in the Bay Area.
This morning, it all came down to the music. Listen HERE while you read the rest of this short article.
Angie shared a sweet story about waking up to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” and decided to pay that joy forward by starting our class with it. Honestly, how can you not have a perfect day when it starts with that kind of vibration? Love you, Angie!
As I was driving home, still feeling that post-workout glow, I started thinking about the things we “supplement” our lives with to feel our best.
The Truth About Supplements
As an NBHWC National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, I am generally very cautious about making any supplement recommendations. The supplement industry is currently off the charts, but it’s important to remember that it is largely unregulated. We often don’t know the quality or the actual dosage of what we’re putting in our bodies, and it’s just another pill.
If you’re feeling “off,” my first recommendation is always to start with your doctor. Get tested. See if you have actual, measurable deficiencies. For most of us, a little boost of Vitamin D (about 600 IU is standard) is helpful, but beyond that? We can generally get exactly what we need from healthy, whole food sources!!
A Natural “Sleepy Time” Alternative
Magnesium seems to be the “it” supplement these days for sleep, relaxation, and muscle recovery. But before you run to the store, I want to share a simple, whole-food hack that saves you time and money: Banana Tea. If you’re looking for a natural magnesium alternative, look no further than your kitchen counter!
Bananas (especially the peels!) are naturally rich in magnesium and potassium.
Banana Tea Recipe:
- Boil a small pot of water.
- Take a whole banana—keep the peel on! (Remove the stem and cut it in half; use one half tonight and save the other for tomorrow).
- Let it steep in the boiling water for about 5 minutes.
- Enjoy it plain or infused with your favorite chamomile or “sleepy time” herbal tea about an hour before bed.
Nighty night!
Leading from the Heart
I believe that wellness isn’t just about what’s in a pill bottle; it’s about the music we listen to, the community we move with, and the small, natural rituals we create for ourselves.
As your personal health and wellness coach, I don’t give you a one-size-fits-all prescription. We work together to create a custom plan that builds more energy, vitality, and a better mood so you can truly shape your best life.
Are you ready to swap the supplements for a natural magnesium alternative that actually works? Supplement your life with a little more love and vitality.
