Child-Led Bedtime Rituals: Letting Kids Lead

Many parents struggle with the nightly battle, but transitioning to child-led bedtime rituals can completely transform the energy in your home.
As parents and coaches, we often step in to manage things. That often leads to resistance.
Here are two things that really changed things for one of my students:
1. Movement to release the day. Sometimes anxiety is just physical energy that gets stuck in the body. We worked together to find a few movements, dancin,g and even just shaking it out, that she felt like doing. Since she chose the moves, she felt like she was in charge of letting that stress go.
2. Directing the dream
Some of her fear came from not knowing what would happen once she fell asleep. We talked about how she can be the director of her own dreams. We practiced ways she could recognize when a dream is happening and reminded her that she has the power to try and change the ending if things get scary.
Why Child-Led Bedtime Rituals Reduce Nighttime Anxiety
Whether you’re a coach or a parent, the goal is the same: Guide your child to find the tools they want to use to release stress.
When a child or teen realizes they can use movement to let go of a bad day and that they have the power to rewrite a scary thought or dream, they are not only getting better sleep, they’re learning how to take care of themselves. ✨
